Senior Backend Developer
The Senior Backend Developer plays a pivotal role in architecting and delivering secure, scalable, and high-performing backend services. This role requires expertise in Java (Spring Boot & Quarkus), microservices design, API security, cloud-native development, and cross-functional collaboration. The developer will contribute to Jeel’s digital transformation by mentoring junior engineers, championing best practices, and ensuring regulatory compliance across backend solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
- Implement and ensure adherence to approved coding standards, backend architecture guidelines, and secure development lifecycle protocols.
- Contribute to the evolution of development and deployment practices across Jeel’s technology teams
- Participate in daily stand-ups and sprint rituals to ensure alignment on development tasks and blockers.
- Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for production backend systems.
- Backend Development & Architecture
- Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs using Spring Boot and Quarkus.
- Build and optimise microservices aligned with cloud-native principles and CIS benchmarks.
- Integrate backend systems with databases, internal platforms, and third-party APIs.
- Security, Compliance & Performance
- Implement robust API security (OAuth2, JWT, RBAC) and adhere to ISO 27001, NIST, and SAMA regulations.
- Apply performance tuning techniques and profiling tools (e.g., New Relic, Prometheus).
- Ensure high availability and resilience in all backend services.
- DevOps & CI/CD
- Maintain and enhance CI/CD pipelines with tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, or GitHub Actions.
- Lead efforts in test automation (JUnit, Mockito), deployment strategies, and observability (Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
- Leadership & Mentorship
- Conduct code reviews, support technical decisions, and mentor junior developers.
- Foster a culture of engineering excellence through internal workshops and knowledge sharing.
- Agile Collaboration
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, retrospectives, daily stand-ups).
- Collaborate closely with product owners, architects, DevOps, and security teams to deliver business value.
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Stay updated with trends in Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, and cloud ecosystems.
- Drive continuous improvement across backend architecture, development workflows, and system reliability.

- Provide informal leadership and coaching to junior engineers, guiding them on code quality, system design, and secure development.
- Provide regular updates to Engineering Chapter Lead and Agile Delivery Managers on progress, blockers, and system health metrics.
- Ensure code and systems meet security and quality standards; participate in secure code reviews and audit preparation processes.
- Participate in cross-functional squads to build features that span across frontend, backend, and DevOps components.
- Support infrastructure cost optimisation initiatives across cloud-hosted services.
